Flix North America Inc., the parent company of the long-distance bus service providers FlixBus and Greyhound, has partnered with Green Energy, a global solar company, to install roof-mounted solar panels on its intercity buses. This initiative aligns with Flix’s commitment to advance sustainable and affordable travel for everyone.

As part of a pilot program, FlixBus buses operating between Houston and Dallas, as well as Houston and New Orleans, are the most recent in the company’s North American fleet to implement this new technology. Plans are underway to expand this initiative to additional markets across the country in the near term.

“By integrating solar technology, Flix’s buses will reduce idling, lower diesel consumption, cut carbon dioxide emissions, and double battery life,” according to a press release. “Additionally, using the charge controller with an Internet of Things (IoT) solution enables Flix to monitor solar production, diesel savings and carbon dioxide reduction, as well as gather and analyze valuable data for ongoing improvements.”

Flix aims to reach net zero by 2040 in Europe and by 2050 globally.
