Laketran (Lake County, OH) has announced that its paratransit Dial-a-Ride service will expand to seven days a week beginning Sunday, Sept. 28, 2025. The new Sunday service will operate from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., helping customers, particularly seniors and people with disabilities, get to shopping, religious services, and other social activities.

“Providing access and mobility is at the core of our mission,” Laketran CEO Ben Capelle said. “For years, we have heard from customers that Sunday service is essential to their independence and quality of life. We view this expansion as our commitment to the community and a direct response to their needs.”

In addition, Laketran will extend service hours on Saturdays for both Dial-a-Ride and Local Routes, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., providing a significant increase in transit access throughout Lake County.

“The majority of Laketran riders are going to work,” Capelle continued. “We believe these new hours will help more people have reliable transportation to work weekend shifts or pick up overtime.”

The decision to expand service was strongly supported by customer feedback. In a recent customer survey, 70 percent reported that their lives are restricted on Sundays due to a lack of transportation. Sixty percent of customers indicated that they have no means of transportation on Sundays, while others said they must rely on friends or family. Respondents were most excited about using Sunday service to attend religious services, visit family and friends, shop, and travel to work.

Laketran’s Dial-a-Ride program is the agency’s most notable service, offering door-to-door transportation throughout Lake County for seniors and individuals with disabilities, but is also uniquely offered to the general public. By expanding service to Sundays, Laketran is addressing one of the most consistent service requests and now ensures that residents have reliable access to employment and essential services seven days a week.

Laketran is currently scheduling trips for Sunday, September 28. For more information about Dial-a-Ride service hours or to schedule a ride, visit www.laketran.com.
