American Bus Association Announces Fred Ferguson As New President & CEO
The American Bus Association (ABA) recently announced the appointment of Fred Ferguson as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective July 29, 2024. Ferguson brings over 15 years of experience in public policy, strategic communications, and leadership within the government, non-profit, and private sectors.
“Fred Ferguson joins ABA following his notable tenure at Vista Outdoor Inc. (NYSE: VSTO), where he was Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications,” according to a press release. “At Vista Outdoor, Ferguson led state and federal lobbying, industry relations, and corporate communications and chaired the Vista Outdoor Foundation. He has been recognized multiple times as a Top Lobbyist and CSR Professional and has successfully navigated complex communications strategies for significant M&A transactions totaling over $3 billion. His experience includes testifying before Congress and executive branch committees on seven occasions and leading a successful lobbying campaign resulting in a multi-year, $42 million business opportunity.
“In his new role, Ferguson will lead ABA into its next era, focusing on uniting diverse stakeholders to drive shared causes and improved outcomes. He is committed to advocating for the mobility industry, connecting the industry, and supporting the community through the ABA Foundation, workforce development, and industry councils.”
Additionally, Ferguson will serve as President of the National Bus Traffic Association. He will also serve as President of the ABA Foundation and will work to expand scholarships, research, and continuing education for the motorcoach and tour industries.
Outgoing CEO Peter Pantuso expressed his confidence in Ferguson’s leadership: “I am thrilled to hand over the reins to Fred Ferguson. His vast experience and proven track record in public policy and strategic communications ensure that ABA is in skillful hands.”
Ferguson is equally enthusiastic about his new role: “ABA sits at the crossroads of so many dynamic businesses and industries. I’m most excited about bringing together this diverse coalition to connect more people with more places. My top priority is getting to know the ABA staff and our membership. I plan to listen and learn so that we can seamlessly execute during the transition while beginning the process of building our long-term strategic plan and expanding our Association’s value proposition for current and new members alike.”
Ferguson added, “One of the common threads in high-performing teams, businesses, and industries is a strong culture, which is the invisible rulebook that guides how we work, act, and engage with one another. I hope to continue the Association’s culture of service to its members and build upon their excitement, energy, and passion. There is so much work to do, and an engaged and vibrant culture will help us attract and retain the talent and resources we need to tell our dynamic story and expand our impact.”
