First Batch Of Electric BYD Buses Delivered To Mexico
BYD Mexico has delivered the first batch of 20 electric buses to Mexico City Metrobús.
“This collaboration involves a total of 55 pure electric buses, marking the largest electric bus fleet delivered in a single shipment in Mexico thus far,” according to a press release. “Dr. Martí Batres Guadarrama, Head of Government of Mexico City; Andrés Lajous Loeza, Secretary of Mobility of Mexico City; Rosario Castro Escorcia, General Director of the Mexico City Metrobús; Alberto Adib Carrera, Institutional Promotion Executive of Nacional Financiera; Adrián Escamilla, CCA Executive Director, Airport Center Corridor; Rafael Burgos, Director of Enel X; and Ray Zou, Country Manager of BYD Mexico, attended the delivery ceremony.”
The buses will be put into operation on Mexico City’s Line 4, helping the city realize a green transportation transition. Mexico City Line 4 is 35 kilometers long, with 40 stations, and will meet the daily commuting needs of about 120,000 passengers.
“The 55 BYD electric buses in operation will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 5,845 tons per year compared to traditional fuel vehicles, contributing to the improvement of air quality in Mexico City,” the release added. “The BYD electric buses delivered are 15 meters long, with a low floor, making it easy for passengers to board and alight; they have a maximum capacity of 130 passengers, a range of 200 kilometers, a battery capacity of 300 kWh, and a charging time of as little as three hours.
“Electric buses run quietly, helping to reduce noise pollution. Additionally, this batch of electric buses provides barrier-free facilities and equipment, especially for people with disabilities, and lowers the suspension height to offer a convenient and comfortable barrier-free traveling experience for passengers with special needs. To ensure public safety, the electric buses are equipped with communication systems connected to the control center.”
Rosario Castro Escorcia, General Director of the Mexico City Metrobús, said, “Zero-emission, sustainable solutions for transportation operations are essential. Since 2018, we have been working on transportation technology reforms, and this partnership with BYD is an important expression of the transition to electrification of Mexico’s public transportation system.”
