In November 2024, Micro Bird took a major step in commercial bus manufacturing in the United States by acquiring a production facility in Plattsburgh, NY.
“Just seven months later, the first U.S.-built Micro Bird bus rolled off the line — crafted in a space that was reimagined, optimized, and energized by a shared commitment to excellence,” according to a press release. “This milestone reflects more than the start of production. It represents a convergence of experience, agility, and collaboration that positions Micro Bird as a key commercial bus manufacturer in the United States.”
The release added: “The Plattsburgh facility had a strong industrial foundation, previously used for transit bus manufacturing. Rather than starting from scratch, Micro Bird built upon that legacy — leveraging local expertise and combining it with our own manufacturing culture. Our teams worked hand in hand with experienced employees from the region to redesign the space for cutaway commercial bus production. The result: an ultra-efficient plant delivering Micro Bird’s hallmark quality in record time.
“Plattsburgh, NY, is a natural choice for Micro Bird. Located near the U.S.-Canadian border, it allows us to serve the American market faster and more efficiently, strengthen our local supply chain, and tap into a highly skilled workforce with deep experience in vehicle assembly. With this new U.S. footprint, Micro Bird is reinforcing its commitment to providing American-made commercial buses that meet the highest standards of safety, comfort, and durability.
“This site is now a key part of Micro Bird’s commercial bus manufacturing U.S. strategy, enabling faster delivery to American operators. The Plattsburgh plant will focus on commercial cutaway buses tailored to U.S. operators, including assisted living transportation, airport shuttle buses, paratransit and ADA-compliant vehicles, and buses for religious and community organizations.
“Built on a Ford Transit chassis, the Micro Bird buses are available with gas, propane, or electric drivetrains. With a variety of interior layouts, lift and ramp options, and smart passenger-friendly features, each vehicle is designed for real-world performance and comfort.
“With the opening of our Plattsburgh facility, Micro Bird strengthens its ability to serve fleet operators, transit agencies, and private organizations across the U.S. We offer durable, low-maintenance vehicles; industry-leading passenger safety; proven electric and alternative fuel platforms; and a growing network of service and dealer support.”
