Victor Valley Transit Authority (VVTA) recently honored Bus Operators Damian Moody and Melody Stanley with official proclamations in recognition of their actions that exemplified compassion, professionalism, and a deep commitment to public safety.

“Operator Damian Moody was recognized for his commendable efforts during a potentially life-threatening situation. After noticing a young passenger unresponsive on his bus, Damian made repeated attempts to wake the individual and promptly alerted his manager. When the young man still did not respond, Damian calmly contacted 911, providing precise information to emergency dispatch,” according to a press release. “First responders arrived on scene and administered Narcan, successfully reviving the individual, believed to be a teenager. Damian’s composure, empathy, and quick thinking played a vital role in ensuring the young man received immediate medical attention.”

The release added: “Operator Melody Stanley received her honor for assisting the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department in safely recovering a runaway juvenile. After receiving a description of the missing youth, Melody, while operating Route 41, identified the individual on her bus and discreetly contacted dispatch. She followed instructions to remain at the Providence St. Mary’s Medical Center stop without alarming the passenger. Her calm demeanor and swift action allowed deputies to receive the juvenile without incident.”

“These two operators truly embody the heart of VVTA,” VVTA CEO Nancie Goff said. “Their willingness to go above and beyond — whether responding to a medical emergency or assisting law enforcement — shows how vital our frontline team is to this community.”

VVTA Board Chair James Noble echoed the sentiment: “Damian and Melody are shining examples of how public transit professionals are more than just drivers — they’re guardians of our riders. Their dedication and presence of mind under pressure make us proud to have them represent VVTA.”

The proclamations were presented to the operators during a recent board meeting attended by VVTA leadership, board members, and colleagues who celebrated their courage and compassion. Visit www.vvta.org.
